About AMSSOI

Andhra Mahila Sabha (AMS) was established in 1938 by the doyen of social reforms Padma Vibhushan Dr Smt Durgabai Deshmukh with the sole objective of the upliftment and empowerment of women. In the last fifty years AMS has successfully established several educational institutions, healthcare centers and hospitals, and legal assistance cells for women.

AMSSOI is one of the units of AMS which has become one of the preferred institutions for girls. Situated in the AMS campus within the Osmania University Campus, AMSSOI has well equipped labs, spacious lecture halls, well furnished library, excellent and dedicated staff and of course, a ladies hostel too.

AMSSOI has a Governing body constituted as per the AICTE norms, by the President, AMS. It comprises of distinguished persons from the fields of education, industry, government and social organizations.

Objective

  • AMSSOI strives to establish an identity of its own and succeed in its mission to impart quality education for girl students in IT.

Founder

Padma Vibhushan Dr Smt Durgabai Deshmukh

Durgabai Deshmukh, mother of social service, toiled all through her life with a single-minded devotion, and with an unshakeable faith towards universal justice and equal opportunity for the down trodden.

Born on 15th July, 1909, Durgabai Deshmukh had a most successful, commendable and productive life to her credit. Perception, planning, performance, personal policy, public relations and public credibility are the pillars on which Durgabai worked. Durgabai, in her unique way demonstrated to the world that womankind, through co-operative endeavor, could achieve the vision of universal opportunity and justice for the future society.

No wonder, Durgabai received national and international appreciation for her contribution to social change in India, like the Paul G Hoffman Award and Padma Vibhushan. She was also affectionately called Mother of Social Service in India.

Dr Durgabai Deshmukh was the founder of AMS institutions and other social welfare service organizations in India. She headed a crusade against illiteracy, ignorance, social injustice against women by establishing several institutions, in the field of Health, General Education and Nutrition. Now, Andhra Mahila Sabha has under its banner its Academic Campus, Hospital, Law College and many more at Hyderabad and Chennai.
